Embedding gifted and talented provision in your school
As part of an innovative partnership between the Westwood Academy and British Mensa, teachers and education professionals are invited to a day-long seminar with Mensa’s gifted child consultant Lyn Kendall.
The seminar will focus on helping to raise achievement for all high attainers, ensuring teaching staff understand the rationale behind gifted and talented provision, ensuring teaching staff know how to provide for their most able learners, and setting up an evidence base for Ofsted.
Longer term support for your school is also available once training is complete.
The seminar will take place at the Westwood Academy in Coventry, Mensa’s hub school for gifted education, on March 21, 2017.
Lyn Kendall - who has experienced gifted education from the perspective of child, parent and teacher - will talk about identifying gifted children, education and parental support, and some of the facts and fiction surrounding giftedness.
She is a qualified psychologist and experienced special needs teacher with particular expertise in supporting the needs of gifted pupils. She is regularly called upon by the media to comment on gifted education issues and has been a consultant for all three series of the Channel 4 programme Child Genius.
At Westwood, Lyn has been instrumental in setting up the Swift Academy, a programme to help high attaining pupils to develop their aptitudes and interests.
The seminar is for Gifted & Talented co-ordinators, classroom teachers and school leaders who are looking to raise the profile of their high attainers.
The day costs £25 per person and includes lunch, refreshments and all talks. Places are strictly limited. All delegates will receive a certificate of attendance.
