Having a high IQ can bring many positive benefits – it is the strongest indicator of academic performance and repeated studies have shown a link between high IQ and job performance and health.

But there can be downsides to being “different”, including isolation, bullying and under-achievement as a result of trying to fit in with peers.

Mensa’s gifted and talented expert Lyn Kendall will be in Manchester on Saturday (February 17) for a special workshop dealing with the positives and negatives of a high IQ, for both children and adults.

Lyn will be at the Double Tree by Hilton Manchester Piccadilly Hotel in Piccadilly Place from 1.30pm until 5pm on Saturday.

Tickets cost £15 per person to include an invaluable session hosted by Lyn, light refreshments and the opportunity to network afterwards.

To book, visit or call 01902 772771 between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Friday.

The session will include what high IQ is and how it is identified, the advantages it brings and the downsides of being different. Lyn will advise on strategies for overcoming some of the issues, in a workshop that is perfect for anyone who feels “different” or disconnected, or their parents, relatives and friends.

It is not necessary for participants to have already been identified as having a high IQ.

The workshop is suitable for adults and children over the age of 10. Under-16s must be accompanied by an adult.

Lyn Kendall is a Mensa member herself, experienced teacher, a qualified psychologist and mum to a profoundly gifted son – so she understands the issues from all angles.

She is also Mensa's gifted child consultant and is regularly called upon by the media to talk about the issues surrounding “giftedness”. She is the expert consultant to the hit Channel 4 series, Child Genius.

Please note, Lyn will not be able to advise on individual cases during this event. Consultations and assessments can be arranged to take place at the venue on the following day by contacting Lyn via  beforehand to make an appointment.
