Time travel, the existence of alien life forms and the study of outer space were the hot topics at the latest Mensa science day in Birmingham.

Martin Griffiths, from Dark Sky Wales and a director of the Brecon Beacons Observatory, entertained a full house of members and guests, mainly from the West Midlands area.

He talked about the probability of there being life elsewhere in the universe, as well as the improbability of ever finding it and the technology that would be needed to travel the vast distances involved.

Martin's talk was well received, and he sold out of the copies of his new book that he signed on the day.

The book is available to buy here.

The day also served as a get-together for officers and members in the West Midlands over an informal lunch.
