Applications invited to join the Governance Advisory Committee

We are looking for four British Mensa members to join the Governance Advisory Committee (GAC).

The GAC is the body of elected members who are available to advise in matters concerning governance within British Mensa. This includes supporting the Board and Head Office throughout the year as requested and offering independent advice to members regarding the Memorandum, Articles of Association and the Standing Orders, as well as advice on wording and legality to members who wish to submit resolutions to the Annual General Meeting.

The committee comprises four individuals, each normally elected for a three-year term, as well as a member of the Board to act as a liaison between the two. As all current members of the GAC are due to stand down this year, and to stagger rotation of members going forward, two of the members elected will serve three-year terms, one will serve a two-year term, and one will serve a one-year term.

To apply for a role on the GAC, members must submit a statement of up to 200 words in support of their application to administration@mensa.org.uk by 12 noon on Friday 2 August.

Should more than four members apply, a poll of members will take place to elect the four successful candidates. Staggered rotation will be achieved by awarding three-year terms to the first and second ranked successful candidates, a two-year term to the third candidate, and a one-year term to the bottom ranked candidate. If there are four candidates or fewer, and no poll is held, lots will be drawn to decide on the term lengths of the candidates. The appointed candidates will take up office after the Annual General Meeting on Saturday 26 October 2024.
