What is the new Mensa Online IQ Test?
Developed by experts in psychology and intelligence testing, and benchmarked against the current population’s IQ, our new Online IQ Test provides a precise and challenging measure of intelligence.
Taken in a fully proctored, secure online environment, assessment is as rigorous and professional as our in-person supervised tests.
The assessment consists of two adaptive tests, examining fluid reasoning via a non-verbal diagrammatic test and verbal intelligence via a vocabulary test. Each test-taker has a personalised experience, as the questions adjust in difficulty according to previous answers given, enabling an accurate IQ score to be established in less than an hour.
A score in the 98th percentile or higher – achieved in fluid reasoning, verbal intelligence, or across both tests combined – qualifies for membership of Mensa.

What will I need to take the test?
To verify your identity and enable online proctoring, you will need the following:
- Current valid photo ID (passport; full or provisional photocard driving licence) and proof of address (candidates must reside in the UK or Ireland).
- Desktop PC or laptop with working webcam, microphone and speakers. Unfortunately, it is not possible to take the test on a MacBook. View the full list of equipment requirements.
- Download of the Guardian Browser, which is the secure browser you will connect to your proctoring appointment through.
- Quiet, well-lit room where you can be alone during your test, ideally with your back towards the door so your proctor can see whether anyone enters the room.
- Workspace clear of food and beverages, stationery and resources, and secondary monitors.

How does the booking process work?
When you click to book the Mensa Online IQ Test, you will be prompted to create a Mensa account (if you already have an account, please login to your existing account). You will then be asked for a few more details to complete your Online IQ Test application. The Online IQ Test will then be added to your cart and you will be prompted to checkout. Once you’ve checked out, you will be taken to your account dashboard.
To book your test time, click on ‘My Booked IQ Tests’ and your test will be displayed (refresh the page if it doesn’t show initially). Then click on ‘Take Test’, which will take you through to the secure proctoring site, ProctorU, where you will be able to select a day and time to take your test. The earliest you can take your test is 48 hours after purchase and your test must be scheduled within 10 days of your purchase. You will also receive a series of emails and be able to login and schedule your test through these as well. Once you have scheduled your test, you will receive an email confirmation, which includes details of what you need to take the test and how to view and manage your booking.
When will I receive my results?
You will receive your results within 10 days of taking your Online IQ Test. If your score places you in the 98th percentile or above, you will be invited to join Mensa. If you do not meet this threshold, you will be able to resit the test in six months time.
