One activity that many of our members enjoy is puzzling! You can test yourself for fun with our brainteasers. Sammy the snail goes for a walk.

He covers the outward journey at a speed of 90 metres per hour.

He returns over exactly the same distance at 60 metres per hour.

What is Sammy’s average speed over the whole journey?

Ans = 72 metres per hour

Assume Sammy walked 180 metres each way, giving a total of 360 metres. The outward journey took 2hrs, the return took 3hrs. Average speed = 360 ÷ 5 = 72 mph
