One activity that many of our members enjoy is puzzling! You can test yourself for fun with our brainteasers. 10/8/25 – Watering Holes

In the puzzle below each letter substitutes for a different digit 0-9. The numbers created act as integers – they are not products (e.g. if A = 1, B = 2 and R = 5 then BAR = 215 not 2 x 1 x 5 = 10)

From the two equations given, can you work out the value of each letter?

BAR + BAR = PUB – 100

INN x INN = TAVERN

For INN x INN to equal TAVERN, N = 0, 1, 5 or 6

Only one square number of the form **a x **a produces a 6-digit answer ending in a with six different digits and that is 855 x 855 = 731 025.

The letters I and TAVERN are now known.

By substitution BAR = *32 where * = 4, 6 or 9

Only 432 x 2 gives a 3-digit answer so B = 4 and P = 9, U = 6
