A teacher uses three coaches and two mini-buses to transport her pupils on a school trip. If a coach can carry three times as many pupils as a mini-bus, and there is a total of 170 pupils, what is the least number of pupils that can travel in a single mini-bus?

10. Let the number of children in a mini-bus = x.
A coach = 3x, so three coaches and two mini-buses = 11x
11x = 176. x = 16. A full coach = 48. mini-bus = 16
3 x coach + 1 mini-bus = 160 leaving 10 in the last mini-bus.
