One activity that many of our members enjoy is puzzling! You can test yourself for fun with our brainteasers. 2/12/24 – Four Candles

I have four, differently coloured, Advent Candles. Each candle is a different length. From the clues below can you work out the length of each candle?

  1. The sum of the green, red and yellow candles is 59cm
  2. The yellow candle is equal in length to the sum of the blue and green candles
  3. The yellow candle is 5cm longer than the red candle
  4. The sum of the blue, green and red candles is 47cm

Green = 12cm, Red = 21cm, Yellow = 26cm, Blue = 14cm
B + G = Y (clue 2), so B + G = R + 5 (clue 3).
R + R + 5 = 47 (clue 4). R = 21, Y = 26 (clue 3).
G = 12 (clue 1), B= 14 (clue 2 or 4).
