23/12/24 – Seven Dwarves

How many of the seven dwarves are lying?

(There are two solutions)

BASHFUL: “At least 1 of us is lying”

DOC: “At least 2 of us are lying”

DOPEY: “At least 3 of us are lying”

GRUMPY: “At least 4 of us are lying”

HAPPY: “The dwarf whose surname is not an adjective is lying”

SLEEPY: “An odd number of dwarves are lying”

SNEEZY: “An even number of dwarves are lying”

  • Show Answer

4 or 5

Clues 1-4 are contradictory so at least three, if not four dwarves are lying.
Therefore, Doc can’t be telling the truth, so Happy is. Either Sleepy or Sneezy is lying. Thus either 4 or 5 dwarves are lying. Either 4 dwarves are lying; Sneezy, Happy and Grumpy are telling the truth or 5 dwarves are lying; Happy and Sleepy are telling the truth.
