8/5/25 – Copycat

Five naughty school pupils were suspected of copying in their recent examinations. To make matters worse, when questioned by their teacher only one of them told the truth.

Who told the truth? And who copied?

This is what each pupil said

KATE        “I didn’t copy”

LIAM        “Michelle copied”

MICHELLE      “One of the boys copied”

NOAH             “Kate copied”

OSCAR            Remained silent!

NOAH TOLD THE TRUTH and KATE COPIED.
Noah and Kate contradict each other. As only one pupil tells the truth, it must be one of these two. Therefore, the others are lying. Michelle’s statement rules out the boys from copying (since her statement is a lie). Similarly, Liam’s false statement rules out Michelle. So, it must be Kate who both copied and lied.
