Meet team Mensa

UK Challenge - because teamwork matters

A big thank you to everyone who applied to join the Mensa team for the CGI UK Challenge. Mensa CEO Cath Hill and team captain Ghaz Karamat really enjoyed meeting all of the candidates and, after much deliberation, have chosen the team that will represent Mensa at this prestigious event which will take place on the Isle of Man between 16 and 18 June.

Meet the team

Ghaz, who lives in London, has been very active in Mensa since he joined early in 2020.

A pharmacist by trade and also a creative performer, Ghaz is also hoping to leverage his management experience as team captain.

London based Sharon Chen is a management consultant who joined Mensa soon after moving to London from New York over a decade ago.

She ran a Marathon last years and has previously completed the Three Peaks Challenge. Over the last couple of years, she  has substituted her travel bug for ticking off her cooking bucket list.

James Shimmen lives in Reading and also joined Mensa in 2020. He’s operations director for a company that specialises in people assessment – so he’s no stranger to intelligence tests! He has run 9 half marathons over the years and more 10km races than he can count – plus he loves a good escape room!
Josh Dade, a data scientist who lives in Nottingham and who also joined Mensa in 2020 is looking forward to the ‘smorgasbord of physical and mental team challenges tackled over a series of days amid the rugged landscape’ of the Isle of Man at the CGI UK Challenge. Josh is a keen hill walker and also runs and cycles.
I’m Achraf, 25 years old and currently live in Worcester and work in the hospital as a Radiographer.

Playing sports has been a staple in my life: I played football since my childhood for many years, then took up martial arts and now enjoy athletics at the Worcester Athletics Club. I also enjoy hiking, cycling and running for leisure, and any kind of sport/activity really.
